Patrick has been a trial lawyer in New York State for 19 years.  He began his career as an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Syracuse, New York, trying cases in the areas of premises liability, disciplinary hearings and general municipal law.  He advised the Mayor’s Office and Common Council relative to all aspects of municipal law, including drafting and interpretation of city codes, Article 78 proceedings and labor and employment issues.

After a brief stint in private practice, Patrick joined the New York State Attorney General’s Office as an Assistant Attorney General representing various state agencies, particularly the New York State Police, New York State Exposition Authority, Office of Mental Health and medical malpractice defense involving SUNY Upstate Hospital in Syracuse, New York.  During his tenure, Patrick tried numerous cases to verdict, and handled the largest caseload among more than 200 Assistant Attorney Generals throughout New York State.

Patrick then joined Smith, Sovik in January 2001 as a litigation attorney, handling matters including municipal law advising government subdivisions and applicants on matters of  zoning law, planning law and building code advisory opinions and other general matters; construction and labor law, medical malpractice, professional malpractice, personal injury and real estate matters. He has tried over 40 cases to verdict with an outstanding record of success.
